When it comes to road trips, the best part is that you cannot plan everything. You just have to live in the journey, prepare as best you can, and figure out how to have a good time along the way no matter what happens. The key is - you just go... Everything truly came together in Enterprise, Oregon. We found Lake Wallowa, which is part of Wallowa Lake State Park just 15 minutes away. Finally - we can use the Kayaks that we have!
We also learned that Wallowa Lake is a "ribbon" lake, which is another way of describing a lake created by glacier melts.
It was October 1st, 2021, and we are in Northeastern Oregon. The weather couldn't be better: a cool-in-the-shade, hot-in-the-sun type of day.
The water was crystal clear and blue as can be, it was truly so peaceful. However, kayaking can be tiring, there is no shade on this lake, and as you can see I am wearing a sweatshirt - we were heating up fast!
Then I had a thought: "What would Yvonne do?"
Easy answer: First, dunk her hat in the water, and second, jump in!
Another Yvonne classic, jumping in the water wherever she could, rain or shine! She was exceptional at floating on her back. After heating up on the hot rocks on the coastline we eventually got hungry. We stopped in Joseph on the way back to Enterprise. It was a charming town, we walked around, really nice people. Now we get back to the Airbnb which I mentioned in the previous post, Journey to Wallowa with Yvonne: Epic Off-roading Near Mt. Hood. Before I show you the absolute beauty of this place on the inside, here is the best part, a signature wall where we could write Yvonne's name:
Okay, back to the podcast: This place was incredibly dog-friendly, and it was just the perfect touch of luxury to really make you feel like you could get used to this.
Hazey felt right at home...
Compared to our humble apartment just outside of Boston, this place was a dream. It was beautifully renovated and designed. Hazey loved the loft...
Hazey also loved the complimentary tennis ball!
In the spirit of road-tripping, we left the last 3 nights of accommodations unplanned, but I knew I wanted to go up into Washington since that was Yvonne's plan when she had to stop. It felt like we were finishing her Great American Road Trip for her... and with her. In the true fashion of this trip, I managed to find a perfect place on a whim in Toledo, Washington. The next chapter will be the last of this trip that was dedicated to Yvonne, but this whole blog embodies her energy and spirit for life, and we have plenty of stories to tell!
